誰も見ていないはずなので、肩肘張らずに気楽に駄文をあげていこうと思います。
今日は統計的差別(Statistical discrimination)について考えてみたいと思います。
まずは辞書的な意味から確認してみたいと思います。
『「統計的差別」とは、侮蔑的な意図からではなく、過去の統計データに基づいた合理的判断から結果的に生じる差別のこと』

例えば、集団A（例：男性）と集団B（例：女性）の２つの集団があり、過去の事例から、ある集団Aの方が企業の役員や部長になる可能性が高いことが明らかな場合、採用担当者は採用応募者のうち、集団Aに属している人を優遇しがちである、といったケースが想定できるかと思います。
過去の統計データに基づき、合理的に判断しているようにも見えますが、上記のケースでは、個々の応募者（応募者a、応募者b、etc）のスキルや能力、経験を十分に考慮せず、「応募者が所属する集団」の特長や実績にだけフォーカスしています。一見合理的に見えますが、実際には「優秀な人材」をみすみす見逃して、「相対的に優秀な集団に属している、個人としては無能な人」を採用してしまっていることもあるかもしれません。
このような個人に対する不適切な評価は、人事・採用の場に限ったことではなく、日常的に起こっているように感じます。例えば、「眼鏡をかけているから勉強ができそうだ」とか「ケニア出身だから足が速いだろう」とか「転校生の彼は関西出身だからきっと面白い奴だろう」といったことをしばしば耳にします。統計的には少なくとも正しい場合もあれば、そもそも事実に基づかない単なる偏見であるケースも中にはあります。
「統計的差別」は評価や意思決定を下す立場でなければ実際には起こらないかもしれません。ただ、そこまでいかなくても、内心で「無意識の偏見（unconscious bias）」をもってしまうことは、誰にでもよくあることだと思います。
知識や過去の経験に照らして、物事を判断しようとする姿勢そのものは非難されるべきものではないと思いますが、その中に、自分でも無意識のうちに持ってしまっている思い込みや偏見が含まれていないか、一度冷静になって、心に手を当ててみることも大事だと思います。
日本人だからこうだ、男性／女性だからこうだ、といった一個人の力ではどうしようもない集団的な特徴や偏見をもとに、相手に対して頭ごなしにレッテルを貼るのではなく、心のフィルターを外した状態で一人ひとりと向き合うことで、統計的差別や無意識の偏見をなくしていけたら、もっと住みやすい世の中になるのかなと思います。
